Imagine driving along a street according to your usual schedule. Suddenly, a mango drops from a tree at the precise moment you’re approaching it. You hear a loud crash and your windshield shatters.
That’s what happened to me yesterday on my way home with my three boys in the car. Pieces of glass flew and landed on my son, who sat in the front passenger seat. Luckily, he wasn’t hurt.
My fellow Miami friends laughed at the fact this kind of thing only happens in Miami. A mango falling from the sky and cracking your windshield? Really?
But this freak accident also reminds us that things can change in an instant. You can be cruising along through life when something falls from the sky. (in my case, literally)
Maybe it’s an opportunity, or a catastrophe — we never know what, when, or how life will throw a curveball at us and we certainly don’t have any control over it.
It’s easy to fear and worry about the things that can go wrong, but 80% of what we worry about never happens and when it does, we didn’t see it coming!
Instead, I propose we approach life with awe and curiosity. Because we just don’t know what can fall from the sky next. Even what we perceive as catastrophes often become opportunities.
Today I want to share this moment of clarity with you: Release your expectations and judgments; Welcome the surprises: And take lots of notes, because your journey is an incredible story only you can tell.
