Happy Sacred Sunday!
This week on the podcast I’m talking about the art of Remembering:
Remembering the things from your past that have nurtured and supported your best self and remembering the future that you desire to create for yourself.
What’s incredible about personal development and doing this growth work is that it has its ways of surprising you.
That’s why I have to share this personal, synchronistic story about what happened this week as I worked on remembering:
Recently I had a conversation with a client of mine, Antonia, who asked me about my family history.
She remembered a famous Cuban directory that was a staple in her home, written by a man named Joaquin De Posada.
She wondered, since my last name is de Posada, if I had any connection to this person.
“Of course! That is my grandfather!” I exclaimed proudly.
She then shared stories about her father and grandfather and hilarious ways this book played a role in their lives and family history.
Antonia brought me back to my memories of my grandfather.
This isn’t the first time I remember this man whom I adored.
Many Cuban families have approached me over the years about his famous book, Annuario de Familias Cubanas.
In fact, I often joke that my grandfather created the very first Facebook for Cubans in print version.
(Think about it: this directory connected Cuban families all over the United States who had escaped Fidel Castros’ communist regime. Long before technology existed, my grandfather pioneered community building and connection.)
And yet, thinking about him this time was different …

Let me give you some context:
I’ve always wanted to carry my father’s legacy of being a world renowned motivational speaker and author. I wanted to study human behavior, and help people live better through my teachings. I wanted to inspire and influence positive change in this world by helping humans be happier humans.
But I struggled so much.
Because I wanted to do his work, but I didn’t want my father’s spontaneous, nomadic lifestyle.
I spent years moving at a turtle’s pace in my business, trying to reconcile these conflicting desires.
I eventually built a business and life I loved on my own terms.
What I didn’t realize was that I already had the blueprint. I had witnessed it firsthand.
I just didn’t remember.
It must have been because I was in active state of remembering having had been exploring these concepts for the podcast that my conversation with Antonia sparked me to go deeper into these memories.
I took his book from the shelf. Inspired, I filmed an Instagram video about his story. As I spoke into the camera, I said, “My grandfather was an entrepreneur long before entrepreneurship was a thing.”
My brain suddenly scanned my past as if it were going through a Rolodex and took me straight to the years my grandfather took care of me as a little girl. I spent most of my time with him until he passed away when I was 12.
I saw his home office that he had in his garage; sitting behind his desk, typing on his typewriter, while I sat across from him, working on my jigsaw puzzle, on the little desk he set up just for me.
I saw him going about his daily routine, methodically and intentionally.
Every detail felt crystal clear.
At that moment, I noticed…
✨ My little office is in the back of my home, just like his.
✨ How I sit at my desk in front of my computer every day, just like he did.
✨ The way I live a methodical and intentional lifestyle, just like him.
✨ And how I build community and nurture connection amongst people by studying human behavior and teaching principles … just like my dad did.
Oh My God. I combined my father’s work with my grandfather’s lifestyle to continue the legacy!
This blew my mind.
As I shared this meaningful connection with my mother-in-law, she marveled at the story and said, “Caro, the things that happen to you are incredible.”
But I reminded her that incredible things happen to everyone… it’s just most people don’t take the time to remember and connect the dots.
It’s not what happens to you … it’s the story you decide to tell and what you make it mean.
May this Sacred Sunday spark a desire to look into your generations and see the legacy you are part of.
Are you part of a story you want to continue or one you choose to rewrite?
May you find the connections that fuel your purpose on this Earth and may you remember who you are meant to become.
