Happy Sacred Sunday!
A couple of weeks ago I dropped my phone in the toilet. I immediately pulled it out. The phone was never fully submerged in water.
My son immediately told me how to troubleshoot this accident and assured me that everything was going to be fine.
I obeyed and did all the steps.
Sadly, the phone did not survive the incident.
It came as a big surprise to everyone that my phone died, because they were all operating under the premise that iPhones are now water resistant. But there was one tiny fact that changed the situation. Months earlier, I had dropped the phone, and the back had cracked. I never fixed it because I have a case that covered the cracks and they didn’t bother me.
Until the water got in through those cracks.
Just the other day I wrote a blog post about hard-boiled eggs and the problem with overcooking the yolk. In that metaphor, I shared a similar sentiment to the one I’m sharing today:
The water isn’t the problem.
On the surface, you could argue that the water is the culprit in both circumstances, so obviously it is the problem. But if you dig a little deeper, you’d recognize that:
In the case of the boiled egg, the problem happens when it sits in the boiling water for too long.
In the case of the phone, the problem happens when the water gets in through the cracks.
The surface problem is rarely the real problem — it’s what allowed the surface problem the opportunity to do damage — that’s what we really should pay attention to.
And that’s what I’m talking about on today’s podcast, which also leads to naming our theme for February.
Exciting stuff!
Tune in to Bliss’n Up on this Sacred Sunday as we notice, name, and nurture a life that lets us listen for the sparks of bliss.
Sending you so much love today and always.
