Sorry about yesterday

Hey,

Unfortunately, I can’t wish you a happy Sacred Sunday because today is Monday! Sorry for not sending my moment of clarity email yesterday. 

My colleagues and mentors for years have urged me to write my emails in advance and batch them so that I never have the pressure of not being able to write to you on a day I’m busy. 

This is sound advice, and on days like yesterday, the strategy makes sense. 

But here’s the thing, I love writing to you on Sunday mornings. It’s my love letter to you. 

I often reference things that have just happened or are going on in real time; stories I often don’t share anywhere else; and insights on the podcast that you may also not see anywhere else. 

This is not a task I hand off to chat gpt to check the box of getting it done.

Hence, there are days I’ll send it late. And in this week’s case, a day I won’t be able to get to it at all. (I think this may be the first Sunday email I miss in 2025). 

But here’s the moment of clarity: Life doesn’t have to be a series of perfectly checked boxes. Yes, you want to be consistent. Yes, you want systems to make you more efficient. No, you don’t want to be the person who doesn’t have follow-through. And yet you also get to be human. You get to be messy sometimes. And in a world where robots can handle almost everything for you… maybe a weekly love letter from a real human arriving one day late can be a refreshing reminder that we still exist.

Okay, a couple more announcements:

The theme I chose for Bliss’n Up this month is INSPIRIT and if you haven’t tuned into the podcast this week, it’s about getting into the spirit of forgiveness. Several people have reached out to me to let me know how deeply it impacted them. 

Also, today is my birthday, and I’m inspirit of gratitude for the life I have built in the years I’ve been given so far. 

I spent the first half of my life living the life I was born into by default, and I have spent the second half choosing to live a life by design. 

That hasn’t always been easy, but it has always been worth it. 

Ever since I opened my eyes to synchronicities, it has also felt guided and magical, and sharing those experiences with you, hoping to open your eyes, has made the journey purposeful. 

So even though this email is a day late, I hope you know that each week when this arrives in your inbox; I wrote it with so much love. 

Thank you for being in my inbox and in my world. My wish today on my birthday is that you catch a spark of bliss and experience a little magic just because.

Is this really magic?

The day I sat down to record this week’s episode of the Bliss’n Up podcast, I was looking forward to sharing that my husband’s birthday happened to land on a Sacred Sunday.

But it wasn’t until I pressed record and glanced over at my Big Ass Calendar that I noticed something …

It was the 48th episode of Bliss’n Up.
And it was Orlando’s 48th birthday.

This fun little fact made me giddy.

In fact, these are the little synchronicities that I allow to shape what I call a magical life.

This is important because a magical life isn’t all magic.

My magical life is filled with challenges, stressors, disappointments, problems, and painful situations, just like everyone else’s. But peering through cracks of the puzzle, there are glimmers of synchronicities — and I choose to pay attention to those. It’s the art of living with Big Eyes.

Marriage is no different.

You don’t stumble upon a magical marriage with the perfect human who was sent to this Earth just to make you happy.

No.

Marriage is full of ups and downs, harmony and discord, bliss and pain, troubles and transformations.

And yet, you can choose to notice the magic peering through the cracks of your puzzle.

That’s what we’ve done over the last 18 years, and it has turned into a magical life and relationship.

So on a day like today, a little synchroncity like my 48th episode landing on my husband’s 48th birthday is enough to remind me that this life is magical indeed.

As you step into this new week and close out another month, I encourage you to reflect on the themes of your own life and relationships. What moments of synchronicity or magic can you find amid the chaos?

This week’s episode is part reflection, part celebration, and part love letter to what it looks like to build a meaningful and magical life on purpose.

One of the skill sets I learned from being a lawyer is how to look at both sides of a coin.

Whenever I have a position on something, I always think of the counter-position to that thing.
I can’t help myself! I was trained to do this.😳😳😳

That’s why, as I’ve been studying the concept of Magnetizing March and becoming the magnet that attracts your dream life, I’ve also spent time pondering the flip side.

What happens when life magnetizes you?

What about those times when you feel pulled toward something bigger than yourself? When you’re not chasing the dream, but the dream feels like it’s chasing you? And your job is simply to answer the call—even when it’s inconvenient, unclear, or a little terrifying.

This push-and-pull dynamic fascinates me. How do we know when to lean in and surrender?

What does obedience to a higher purpose look like?

And how do we handle the unexpected lessons that show up when life doesn’t go as planned?

If you’ve been feeling a nudge or noticing something pull on your heartstrings, this conversation might be the one you need right now. Life has a funny way of calling us toward growth, and it’s not often smooth sailing—but oh, what beauty can come from surrendering to the pull!

This episode isn’t about having all the answers— It’s about learning to live with the questions and trusting the pull.

Last week I shared I had fallen out of flow with the podcast, and the 3 mindset shifts you can use to when you’ve fallen off track.

Well, this week I’m sharing 3 action steps you can take for the same reason.

Because the best way to produce positive results is when you synergistically combine your thoughts and actions.

I’ve seen it time and time again that action without aligned thinking and thinking without aligned action often produces poor and inconsistent results.

I called these actions “power moves” because they are actions that help me step back into my power when I start to feel powerless.

This is foundational work.
It’s the kind of work that puts you back in the driver’s seat when you feel the car is out of control. And that’s all you can do, my friend.

Everything else is a box of surprises.

3 Mindset Shifts For When You Fall Off Track

This week was a tough one.

There was celebration (my son had a birthday) and sadness (we suffered a sudden death in the family) and busyness and all the things.

It was one of those weeks where managing all the emotions, tasks, and responsibilities can be so overwhelming that something’s gotta give.

If you are working on adopting new habits, routines, lifestyles, or combating certain personality traits, these are the circumstances that can easily knock you off track and back into the comfort of the old you.

Doesn’t have to be that way, but sometimes it happens.

For me, what hit me was a wave of what I’ll call “podcast block.” I couldn’t get myself to record a podcast episode for the upcoming week. I scoured my brain, read through my notes, and checked out potential podcast themes I jot down along the way, but I couldn’t connect to any of it.

So, I continued to procrastinate, which is a personality trait I have been actively eliminating from my life.

I didn’t mention this on the podcast, but I’ll share with you here … I’ve even created incentives to ensure I don’t procrastinate.

For example, my editor and I agreed on imposing a late/rush fee for any episodes that are submitted past a deadline each week.

But even that didn’t grease the wheels this week. I had fallen out of flow and was struggling to get back on.

This can be a pivotal moment in your journey to self improvement. Whether you’re working on your habits, lifestyle, relationships, or business, this can trigger the all-or-nothing mentality, which can spiral you into shame and blame and can easily cause you to quit.

That’s why a resilient mindset matters.

This experience prompted me to share the 3 mindset shifts I used to get me through this week’s derail and save me from quitting altogether.

Foundations of a Bliss-Full Life

Happy Sacred Sunday!

Foundation is defined as a basis (such as a tenet, principle, or axiom) upon which something stands or is supported.

Yesterday, during our sunrise walk, I had a moment of clarity.

One of our walkers mentioned how confusing the path was and admitted she had no idea how to find her way back to her car

“Oh, don’t worry,” I assured her. “I know this path like the back of my hand. I’ve been running it for … 10 years!”

It hadn’t occurred to me until then that the first time I ever ran that route was a decade ago. It was 2015 and my father had recently passed away.

Bruce, one of my dad’s closest friends, had decided to take an active role in my life after his passing. He discovered I was a runner and invited me to join him and his running group for a Saturday morning run.

Just like the woman yesterday, I ran beside Bruce, having no idea where I was going (or if I could keep up 😳!).

That was the first time I ever ran toward the sunrise, and from that moment on, I followed that route every Monday and Saturday for years.

Those runs got me through the most difficult time of my life. They supported me as I processed the grief of losing my father. They made me stronger physically and emotionally. They helped me form meaningful relationships with really great people. And they taught me that nature rewards early risers with majestic skies.✨✨✨

The runs toward the sunrise brought me back to life.

This became the foundation of the life I live, and the work I do, today.

That’s what Foundation February is all about. It’s about focusing on the principles, practices, and people that help you form a stable base when your world feels unsteady.

This one is deeply personal, but I wanted to share

Happy Sacred Sunday!

In The Joy of Success, Susan Ford Collins writes: “Like a computer, your brain has a FindCommand.” She’s referring to the Reticular Activating System (RAS), the incredible network in our brainstem that filters sensory information, prioritizing what’s most important to us. It helps us regulate attention, awareness, and goal-directed behavior.

Well, let me tell you, every month when I choose a theme, my RAS seems to light up, helping me find that theme everywhere and in everything!

Ever since I chose “SHIFT” as the theme for January, I’ve been noticing the word everywhere—Instagram posts, books I’m reading, podcasts I’m listening to—it’s such a fascinating experience!

This week, I’ve been reflecting deeply on a major shift I made in my life: in the arena of spirituality.

Some shifts can be sudden and abrupt, others are slow and subtle. The shift in my language and perspective as it relates to spirituality has been the latter.

It’s been quite a journey, and one that I am grateful for, because it has allowed me to explore so many different possibilities, expand my perspectives, and connect with conflicting theories.

I first wrote about this shift back in 2018 in my blog post, Do you believe in magic? , but the journey neither started nor ended there.

This week on the podcast, I’m sharing where I stand now on my spiritual path and how the shifts I’ve made have profoundly shaped the way I experience this life.

That’s the power of shifting. When you change your direction, focus, or attitude, your RAS aligns with that shift, bringing extraordinary results. It’s also why mindset is such a powerful tool—it’s easy to unknowingly activate your RAS in ways that lead you away from your desires through subtle language or subconscious behaviors.

But when we shift intentionally?  The results can be awe-inspiring.

Shift into 2025

Happy Sacred Sunday!

January arrived in all its glamour.

The ball dropped, the fireworks roared, and the people cheered.

The energy and vibe all around is hopeful, new, and exciting … at least for a few hours.

And then, as the dust settles, and the sun rises, we step into a new day (which can look exactly like the days before if we’re not careful.)

With all the excitement of a new year, I almost forgot to set an intention for this month.

By the time I realized it, I struggled to come up with a theme.

It was then that I realized that poor little January takes on all the pressure and burden of the entire year, and we forget that it’s only one month in the collection of the bunch.

But if you’re paying attention, you will always find what your’e looking for — even when you least expect it.

During a conversation with my husband on our flight home, January’s theme hit me.

We were talking about something unrelated, but the answer was there, and it was exactly what we all need this month.

January isn’t about conquering a whole year in a simple month — but it is the month that invites us to shift our energy, focus, and behaviors.

It is still winter, so it doesn’t have to be a jumpstart, a race, or a spring. It’s more subtle than that.

But it’s a shift nonetheless.

That’s what i’m talking about on today’s podcast.

Ditch the end of year pressure. Try this instead.

Welcome to the last Sacred Sunday of 2024!

With less than 72 hours left to close out the year, this may be a great opportunity to reflect on the past 12 months.

What practices did you sustain throughout the year? What served you well and kept you aligned with your values? What do you want to carry into the new year, and what are you ready to leave behind?

It may be a good time to look through your camera roll, calendar, and/or journal to remember the highlights, the challenges, and the storyline of your year.

Or ….

it may not be the best time to do this because you’re traveling with friends, exploring a new city, or skiing down a slope.

That’s the tricky part about this holiday — real life doesn’t always align with the end-of-year practices you’d like to implement. It’s also why starting New Year’s Resolutions on January 1st often falls flat.

This used to frustrate me— until I discovered a practice that changed my perspective on everything.

That’s the practice of living in alignment with the seasons.

Respecting the natural flow of seasons helped me realize something profound: this “new year” holiday lands squarely in the middle of winter. While I still love New Year’s Eve celebrations, I no longer feel pressured to start a brand-new life on January 1st.

I’ve let go of the rush to close out everything by December 31st. And I no longer feel the frustration of being out of routine on the very day I’m “supposed” to begin fresh, new habits.

Instead, I give myself grace and align my actions with the rhythms of the season. Between October and December, I focus on closing the loops on matters that truly need to be wrapped up by December 31st — like taxes and finances. Beyond that, I take my time.

I enjoy the process of reflection.

I savor the winter.

I contemplate practices rather than resolutions.

I flow with the seasons instead of forcing them.

Tony Robbins says, “We overestimate what we can do in 1 year but underestimate what we can do in 10.” 

I’d add that we also underestimate what we can accomplish WITHIN a year because we overestimate what needs to happen in January.

That’s why today I want to give you permission to celebrate the end of the year while remembering that the winter season isn’t over yet. You will still have time to “spring” into action.

Reflection and projection don’t have to happen this week. If next week feels better, do it then. What matters is that you don’t skip these exercises altogether because they are important.

On today’s podcast, I’m sharing 5 intentional practices I use throughout the year that outlast resolutions. Living by the seasons is the first practice, but there are 4 more I’m excited to share with you.

Let’s flow into 2025 with peaceful, graceful energy. We have plenty of time to optimize this year— you’ll see!
